Bag of Chemicals

The World’s Leading Bags of Chemicals

On January 20, 2008, leading scientists from around the world gathered in Ventura, California for a prestigious Gordon Research Conference on “The Origin of Life”.  Here’s how the conference announcement begins its description of the august conclave:

“The study of life's origins on Earth, and possibly elsewhere in the universe, requires an interdisciplinary approach that integrates experimental data and theoretical models from earth, life, chemical and space sciences. This year's conference will underscore that rich diversity of perspectives, with an emphasis on efforts to understand the ancient transition from geochemistry to biochemistry.”

“The ancient transition from geochemistry to biochemistry”... In other words, they were discussing exactly how it is that life came from rocks and dirt.  And I am sure that a good time was had by all.  I am sorry I missed it.  I have been thinking about doing some research on this myself – if I just had the time.

When men determine to leave God out of the picture, there is no telling where they will wind up, and they won’t even realize how ridiculous the whole thing is.  These men do not stop to reflect that their whole conference is based on their ability to think their thoughts and organize, critique and present their ideas.  And where do their ideas come from, according to their theories?  From chemicals in banging together in the rocks for a few billion years until they aligned a certain way, and – voila! – life was formed.  Then over hundreds of millions more years, these chemicals increased in complexity and got together in little bags and compartments, that eventually developed consciousness, and the conscious chemical bags developed the ability to reason.  And then the reasoning chemicals were finally able to develop language and philosophy, so they could hold this conference and develop theories about how the chemicals in the rocks did all this…

It only takes a little humility to answer this simple question:

Did reason come from rocks, or did rocks come from reason?

Rom 1: 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man--and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.  24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. NKJV
